Discovery Ventures' goal is to invest in more than 50 companies with a strong scientific foundation and internationalization potential, combining financing, technological validation, and strategic support.

Barcelona, October 2025.

Additio Capital, imec.istart, Mobile World Capital Barcelona—through its technology transfer program The Collider—and technological center Eurecat, along with the asset manager Talenta Gestión, have launched Discovery Ventures, a venture capital fund with a target size of €60 million aimed at promoting hightech and applied deeptech startups and spin-offs in domains such as medtech, industrial applications, cleantech and energy
The project was born with the ambition of turning Spain into a European hub for scientific and technological innovation, fostering collaboration between universities, research centers, and corporations to bring science to market and strengthen European technological sovereignty.

A pioneering model for connecting science and investment

Discovery Ventures is structured as a European Venture Capital Fund (EVCF) under the supervision of the CNMV. Its objective is to invest in more than 50 companies with a strong scientific foundation and internationalization potential, combining financing, technological validation, and strategic support. The purpose of the investment and support is to help bring some of Spain’s most promising innovations to the market, amongst others validating their value proposition, bringing initial prototypes to Minimal Viable Product (MVP) stage, attracting first customers and maturing the ventures to attract more funding where needed.

A benchmark international ecosystem

Discovery Ventures has three institutional pillars that make it a unique initiative in Barcelona and Spain:

  • imec.istart, considered the best acceleration program, will act as a strategic partner. Its experience will allow it to bring a proven system of support to technology startups emerging from universities and research centers to Spain.
  • Mobile World Capital Barcelona, through its benchmark program at the state level for technology transfer, The Collider, will be the fund's venture building partner, contributing its European leadership in tech transfer and connection to the ecosystem.
  • Eurecat, the first technology center in Catalonia and one of the most important in Europe, will be the technology partner. It will carry out the technical evaluation of investment opportunities, provide technology development and R&D&I skills and capabilities, facilitate access to specialized infrastructure for the fund's investees, and contribute to the deal flow of opportunities with its own technologies.

A national vision for the new generation of innovation

Discovery Ventures is part of the strategy to strengthen Europe's technological autonomy and its capacity to transfer knowledge to the productive sector. Discovery Ventures represents a new model of collaboration between innovation and capital. With the support of imec.istart, The Collider, and Eurecat, we aim to transform cutting-edge research into global business projects that generate economic, social, and environmental impact.
